2-3x a week now I get the blessing to be a training partner with my Dad! Here we are lat pull-down twinning this morning. At age 70, I’m so proud of him!
Our strategy: We start out walking on the treadmill for 5-10 minutes. Then we work all about the gym on the machines and the free weights doing compound movements with lots of pushes and pulls for both the upper and lower body.
Our goals are: strength, mobility, optimizing range of motion, making this a lifestyle, all by going slow and staying injury-free.
On our first visit, I said, “We are not here to feel ‘beat up’ or try to catch up from time off or run our bodies into the ground. The goal is to build our bodies up and be strong and functional for life!”
Friends, it is never too late to start or restart on your wellness. Guess what? It is NOT optional. It is Biblical!
We have to care for ourselves or we will be battling the aches and pains of the aging process vs. embracing its beauty. It doesn’t have to be painful and debilitating!
The best path: be proactive! Invest a little bit of time and intention daily vs. trying to chase after and fast forward years of self neglect. Walks, earlier bedtimes, more water, less caffeine and sugar, real foods, and giving yourself time in your day to be and stay well. It’s SO worth it down the road!
My precious training partner and I have our appointments in the calendar. We are committed to this. We will be back soon.
Go, Dad, go! ??
