The Benefits and Process of a Rest, Reset, or Deload on your Progress!

March 18, 2019 By Mindy

The results are in! After last week’s planned FULL week of Deload, Reset, Rest or whatever you want to call it, I woke to this morning’s report to say, “Challenge yourself! Your readiness is off the charts. What can you do with all this potential?”

So what did I do? Every 8-9 weeks or as needed if sooner, I take a dial back and a ramp up. I dial back the training intensity and I ramp up the self-care. I make sleep and recovery the priority and place more intention to slow down and be.

That is HARD for me! Day 1 last week I went into the gym and decided to go thru my training plan with 1 set of 12 reps. Just one set. It was truly challenging to stop because I’m programmed to push and do more. It was difficult to walk out of there feeling like I cut the plan short, but I made myself stop and leave!

By days 3-4-5, I improved my ability to be ok with doing less and it was empowering!

I felt more energy, my waist came in, my weight came down, my hunger cues were normalized, I had no sugar cravings (from ⤵️ stress and cortisol levels) and I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. My heart rate got very low at night, which indicates an ability to get recovered from the prior day.

Yoga class, treadmills by the window and away from screens, more sauna, and a Chiropractic visit also made my agenda. I ended the intentional week-long deload yesterday with a total rest day, a day with family and great conversation, and lots of yummy food. Perfect!

My body woke today and said, “Game on!”. Now heading into this cutting fat-loss phase, my body isn’t stressed and will give me the response I want. Last week truly paid me back ten fold!

I share all this because we live in a day where getting less sleep is trending. “Hardcore” is king and running on fumes is praiseworthy. Being “busy” comes with a badge of honor.

I’m telling you the exact opposite and this is not how we are created to live. I believe in dialing back **before the tank is on empty or sickness sets in.**

Less really is more. Maybe a Reset hour, day, or week is calling YOUR name?

To Your Wellness,
-Mindy
