Lifestyle and Daily Choices Affect Body-Fat Storage!

May 20, 2019 By Mindy

Less than 7 weeks to dial in about 10 more pounds off this machine. I’ve taken 10 off to this point in this prep since mid March and it always sits in 2 places on me: the back of my hips and on my back. Why is that?

We carry our fat cells based on genetics, but more so on epigenetics, how we live our life. Stress, sleep cycles, eating choices, nutrient timing, thought patterns, relationships…it ALL matters. It’s a hormonal reaction to the life we live.

Carry more body fat in your midsection? It’s commonly tied to higher cortisol and stress, maybe even paired with late nights, and lots of screen time.

Carry it on your back or the back of the hips like me? Here’s the catch: it’s insulin!

One way I have pulled fat off the back of my body is by narrowing my eating windows thru the day. Over the winter I was eating too close to bedtime, therefore leaving my blood sugar too high thru the night.

Our bodies were not created to have access to food 24/7 as we do now. I was eating my meals for too many hours in the day and this led to higher body fat on my back, creating a hormonal response to my food timing. Now I know!

*Learn new things, apply new ways*.

My goal is now to only be eating for 12 hours or less in a day, ideally ending 2-3 hours before bedtime. I also do my starchy carbs in the AM and around my training when the pancreas is secreting more insulin. Waiting too late in the day to eat and my body is preparing hormonally to sleep, not to digest!

You could literally shift your eating window and eat the SAME food and change your body and hormone signaling. Aren’t our bodies amazing?
