My rainbow meal ?! The color of a food also describes the nutrients of a food. Bright=full of benefits!
More Colors: ⬆️ your energy; they bring in their own digestive enzymes and help your body break them down. This allows your body to shuttle its energy to other places, like for physical activity or brain power.
Lack of color: ⬇️ your energy; ever get really tired and drained after you eat?
Here is why: engineered food void of real colors, fiber, and phytonutrients causes your body to call on necessary enzymes from other body functions like immunity, muscle building, fat burning, or energy supply just to break down the food.
If it is shelf stable and full or preservatives, it won’t easily break down inside of you either. It can raise systemic inflammation and simply put, it causes more “work” to your body, stealing from what it’s really meant to do.
Here I stopped at Fresh Thyme Farmers Markets to access some options I don’t have on hand at home. Purple cabbage, blue berries, red radish, and fresh green broccoli filled my bowl, to name a few. Home or on travel, a grocery salad bar always has great options!
Then when I got home, I added my fats and proteins: sardines for omega 3’s , avocado and macadamia nuts. I topped it in salsa as my dressing.
This meal pulls in half my day at 707 calories, broken down into 50g carbs, 40g fat and 41g protein.
That plant life = more energy in life!
