I’m up prepping my day and working the to-do list. The “Today” show is on in the background and the words “Weight Loss” are a hot topic right now….you know that.
There are two types of Weight Loss:
A. Going for a number on the scale
-may involve low calorie amounts of food at or below one’s BMR
-focuses on fast results
-little to no focus on habits, patterns, systems, science or education
-could lower your metabolic rate
-lots of cardio, little to no weight training
-when that number on the scale is reached, the system is often not long term and one may gain all the weight back and usually more because the metabolism has been impacted
-involves quick-fix products
-puts a lot of foods on the “Do not eat” list
-old ways are still present, just supressed
-Is not likely something one can do week after week or month after month…it’s a sprint!
-keeps the fitness industry in business because of the yo-yo cycle ongoing for 75%+ of America; {start, want fast results, stop, restart….}
B. Changing Habits, making it a lifestyle
-involves the big picture of getting enough sleep and adequate calorie intake
-focuses on whole foods, daily hydration and realistic, balanced eating patterns allowing a variety of foods
-involves science and the “why” of what your body needs what it needs
-teaches strategy on how to dine out, grocery shop and eat in social settings
-incorporates a variety of physical activity, including weight training and minimal to moderate cardio
-is about educating yourself on you, food intolerances, caloric needs, metabolic capacity, rest needs….”Become a student of you!”
-resets hormone levels with proper amounts of sleep, nutrient timing, and awareness to science
-takes time, patience and consistency….even when you don’t want to!
-results are slow going, yet VERY effective and safe, scientifically based
-weight tends to come off and STAY off because a new habit system has evolved with an education base learned over time
-old ways are replaced with new ways
-systems are doable year after year….this is now a new lifestyle, a long distance event
