Every summer when we enjoy our seasonal treats, the reality of today’s portion sizes hits me. I ordered one scoop for each of my kids and it is really more like two servings overflowing from this dish. I even made sure they didn’t accidentally give my kids a double, but the server confirmed it was a single.
On an ice cream carton a single serving is 1/2 cup. This purchase may even be close to 3 of those, so imagine if someone ordered two scoops!
There is absolutely nothing wrong with treats and I encourage that for my clients and family, but oversizing is a real issue in American restaurants and venues. We’ve become numb to what a “single serving” really is and our bodies and systems are paying for it.
Tracking and measuring your eating habits for a few weeks is a great place to gain awareness of what you’re routinely putting in your body. Good to know and knowledge for your journey!
