Have You Done Your Time?

Gym TimeI read a post recently of a gal who competed in her second bodybuilding competition. She placed third of three competitors and instead of pulling the pity-party card, she instead said, “I’m happy with my progress. I just have not done my time yet.”

What she means is that on any course of change or goals towards improvement it takes time and due diligence.  In the sport of bodybuilding, it’s all about time, consistency and intention towards the plan. Nothing happens overnight.

This can apply to anyone’s mission. If you set out to lose 30 pounds, get to size {insert your size here} and obtain your ideal look, for example, you have to “do the time”. You have to be diligent about changing old, destructive habits to new, productive ones and stay the course. It takes time and consistency, but if you are not consistently working to change your ways, how can you expect to change your results? You have to do the time.

If you see someone at the gym in great shape or someone else rocking a cute summer dress, don’t let it get you down or even begin to compare yourself to them.  Maybe they’re ahead of you in “their time.”  You might have just started on your journey last week and she’s been on hers for the past 52!  You just don’t know.  Bottomline, any sport, any goals, you have to do the time!
