When I do my cardio, one of my favorite methods is the incline treadmill, no hands!

I’ve been on the treadmill in a HIIT (high intensity interval training) or steady-state format.  After a few minutes of warm-up, I like to pitch the incline as high as it will go and in this case it is to a level 15.  I walk at about a 2.4 to 2.5 mph pace, which may not sound like much, but if you’re on an incline, it will be very challenging.

The catch is you do NOT hold on with your hands.  You can use your hands to get an even greater workout with an additional rhythmic swinging action.  If at anytime the incline or speed are too challenging, simply dial it back for a few minutes until you’re ready for more intensity.

If you’re not wearing your heart rate monitor, it’s always a great idea to use the machine’s monitor to check your current heart rate.  Heart rate training during cardio is another key factor you can use when trying to get an effective workout.  Staying mindful even in a walk is always beneficial.
