When I come across new finds in my Nutrition Coaching studies, and they have a great impact on me, I want to share them with others.
How much liquid do you drink with your meals? I used to down a ton of tea or water with my meals, BUT now I’ve learned that too much liquid will mess up digestion. So not only is it important as to what we eat, but also what is eaten in combo with each other. Too much liquid messes up nutrient breakdown, digestive enzyme secretion, and nutrient uptake. Even the most nutritious foods can be poorly digested due to too much liquids during the meal.
My studies suggest a max of 6-8 ounces when eating and 1 to 2 glasses up until the food arrives. So now, I aim to take in a good amount of water *before I eat* and that way it also seems to offer me a nice satiety going in to the meal and keeps me from overeating.
Improved digestion meets portion control….Win win!
