I heard a great piece of advice lately! In listening to Dennis Waitley’s “The Psychology of Winning”, he gave a great tip and it’s one I’ve known of and acted on before. No matter your focus, be it business, fitness, finances, relationships, sports, or hobbies, if you admire the way someone looks, performs, or advances in their arena, find out what they’re doing and follow their lead.
If you know them personally, ask to sit down with them over coffee and give you some insight on their journey, goals, and processes. If you admire their path from afar, study their tips, research their strategies, and get to know more about their successful systems. If you’re wanting change and challenge, you have to invest some initiative into finding out what works for other people.
For me I’ve done this and had this done to me, and quite honestly it’s the best compliment one could receive. I’ve contacted people in business and asked to meet with them to collaborate on their systems. I’ve met with professionals in the fitness industry to get the inside scoop to their strategies and to learn more about the good, bad, and challenges of their journey. I’ve had people contact me about my eating and workout strategies and ask to shadow me in the gym. I’ve had people contact me about online business plans and websites I’ve developed and homes and rooms I’ve designed. When they see something that appeals to them, they want to know more. These examples tell me that people are serious about taking life up a notch and they show initiative and an action plan to getting to the next step.
Don’t ever be afraid to speak up. There are TONS of people out there who would love to give back and share their successes and hardships of their experiences. Not everyone will want to share what they’ve learned or will be willing to just give it away, but you may be able to pay for a consultation for more knowledge. We don’t know what we don’t know, so it just makes sense to reach out to others and plain and simple just try to figure it out! Think about it this week…who will you contact with your list of questions and how to’s?!
