The diet industry is FULL of supplements, vitamins, shakes, and nutritionals to enhance your fitness journey. I’ve used quite a few products myself and saw their benefits in certain seasons of my life towards meeting my goals at that time. I’m always paying attention to the pros and cons of what’s available and the optimal timing in taking the items I choose. There’s a lot to explore for sure!
On a different note, I read recently on a post on Bodybuilding.com that 73% of the 2/3 of American adults that start on new fitness goals and resolutions each year QUIT before reaching their goals. Most give up within only SIX weeks of starting and do so with claims that it’s too difficult to follow a diet or workout regimen (42%), it’s too hard to get back on track once falling off (38%), or it’s just too hard to find the time (36%). We are a society who wants quick results to our issues with little to no change to our habits and ways. (Read my “I want to change, {but I don’t want to change}” post here!) We want the fastest route with the least amount of time and money invested so we can get the dramatic changes we desire…..and companies know that!
So when we see an advertisement for a new product, an amazing transformation with a company’s product stamp, or a program promising fast results, we’re likely to bite. This could be the “it”, the secret we’ve been looking for for so long. The diet industry makes TONS of money off of Americans’ stop-and-restart patterns each year. They capitalize off our desire to quickly obtain what they’re advertising as the end result. Like I said, there are many wonderful products on the market to take your results up a notch, but nothing comes without YOUR hard work and patience. Keep your guard up!
So the next time you come across a product advertisement promoting an amazing result, do your research, ask questions, and know what you’re buying. What you don’t see behind the scenes to that amazing physique is the time it took to get there, the amount of time lifting weights, making wise food choices, frequent eating, sacrifice to standard American food choices, lots of rest and sleep, and water, water, water. You also don’t see the research that person did to choose an optimal plan for them, the fitness coaches and mentors that came alongside them, and the accountability partners that supported them to this point. There’s SO much more to it than what you will ever see.
So when you admire someone with an amazing physique or transformation, keep an open mind. First off, they are a product of their hard work and efforts, a product of THEIR product! They did the work, put in the time, made the commitment, and kept to the plan. The nutritionals they take and programs they follow do likely enhance their results, but remember there is no quick fix or easy button. If you’re willing to invest in something new, be willing to bring the package deal. Otherwise, you’ll be going into yet another start-stop cycle when the results you desire don’t show up six weeks later. Go against the flow, stay the course, make wise choices, and work the plan. Choose to be in the 27% minority this year and be a product of your product!
