Each Saturday I feature my favorite exercise of the week. This week I chose Standing Calf Raises. This is done at the end of my 2nd leg day of the week. I do 5 sets of 15 reps on the Smith Machine. You can also stand off the edge of any other platform machine and use dumbbells, but I like having the weight on my back so I can go super heavy.
-Place a few larger plates on the floor to get a nice range of motion in the move
-Hang the back 2/3 of your feet off the plate.
-Sets 1, 3, 5 are with feet parallel for one set of 15
-Set 2, to hit different heads of the muscle, place toes together and heels wide
-Set 4, place heels together and toes wide
-Range of motion should be large and squeezing at the top of each rep is key in each set.
-I go heavy to really tax the muscle…..and watch those calves grow and fill out!
