This is Kate. She has four little girls and she just recently made a lifestyle switch. Kate competed in her first NPC bodybuilding show in the Bikini division and has plans to train for Figure down the road. But what we really want to share is that she changed courses, made herself a priority, added in weight lifting to her routine and got onto a new path in life. Lifting weights is where it’s at! Read on to find out more……
When did you get your start?
I was anorexic my freshman year in high school. After becoming a Mom, I started my journey after my third baby and I wanted to lose weight, but was doing it all the wrong way. I was doing the HCG injections and my three-year-old walked into the bathroom and saw me giving myself an injection and said she wanted to do it too. That was my moment of enough was enough! I realized that I had little girls who were going to follow my example and I didn’t want them to struggle like I had. That day I hired a personal trainer. I had no idea what to do in the gym so I watched and payed attention and lifted heavy! After a year I felt good enough to do it on my own.
What were your struggles?
In that year I had only lost 10 pounds! I was very frustrated and I was told I needed to eat clean, having no idea what that was. So I hired a Nutritionist and that was the year I lost 50pounds! You truly cannot out train a bad diet! The hardest part is the food, I looooove food!!!!! And the non-supportive people. It’s hard having people make fun of what you eat or just the rude comments in general. I’m thankful for those who have supported me and my loving husband who has always been in my corner!!!
What goals did you set and what plan did you follow? In other words, what was your new system?
The last 20 lbs came off this year. I wanted to push myself to do something out of my comfort zone and the idea of stepping on stage in a bodybuilding show seemed like such a big goal! So I hired a coach to help me get there. Being a mom to four little ones, a business owner, and a life with a busy schedule, I needed an outlet, something for me. What started as a thing to just lose weight has become a passion, an outlet. It’s a place that I go, turn on my headphones, turn off the world. I listen to Christian rap while I lift, it’s time for me to think and talk to God. I love the feeling after a hard workout, dripping in sweat. I’m sore and my lungs feel like I have had a breath of fresh air.
What do you want others to know?
I want to encourage moms that you’re worth it! That it’s never too late, you’re never too old, and you’re never too heavy to start!
How do I find the time ? Life is crazy, but if anything is important to you, you make time for it!
But you’re spending time away from your kids? My girls come with me and love the YMCA and the childcare is amazing! My oldest can’t wait to start working out with me! I had a dexa scan done a few months ago and the guy told me that losing the weight gave me 30 years back! Talk about giving time to my kids, not to mention I can run and play with them!
Now I need to go eat and build more muscle! The work is never done!
Thanks Kate for sharing a part of your story. We commend you for taking those first steps and staying the course.
…..to your journey!
